Workshop Plans – The Basics

A workshop is basically a building or room which provides the area and tools (or machinery) that may be required for the manufacture or repair of manufactured goods.
In transport industries, workshops could mean something different from garages primarily used for storage, servicing and minor repairs.
In education, the word workshop refers to a brief intensive course, a seminar, a panel discussion or a series of meetings planned to emphasize interaction and exchange information among a small number of participants.
In the process of development of organizations, concepts, products or services, workshops would mean meetings in which groups apply methodologies and practices for problem analysis or decision making. This is done in order to cooperatively achieve a result.

Every woodworker would love to have a larger workshop. However, each woodworker faces unique challenges when laying out their own wood shop. It is important to make the most out of the space available whether you begin with a basement, garage or dedicated building.
While power tools and woodworking machinery are the heart of the wood shop, there are a number of other accessories that can assist you in building your woodworking projects. The following 7 items can be of great use in your shop:
1.	Basic Cabinetry: The basic cabinet can store a considerable amount of items and can be easily adapted for use in the kitchen, bath or wherever you want.
2.	Portable Shop Table: A woodworker will always need more table space. A full size portable workshop table can be moved around on built-in, retractable rollers and the legs drop onto the floor to keep the table from moving when you’re working on a project.
3.	Classic Wooden Toolbox: This is always required by a woodworker to carry tools to and fro from the job site.
4.	Feather boards: The process of cutting some narrower pieces of stock on a table saw or router table are made much safer and simpler with the use of a feather board.
5.	Ultimate Wood Sawhorses: It is necessary to have a sturdy set of sawhorses whether working inside in the wood shop, outside or on a job site.
6.	Portable Miter Saw Stand: The compound miter saw is used for cross-cutting compound angles. A good compound miter saw is heavy and when working outside the wood shop, it is necessary to have a portable stand.
7.	Band Saw Circle Cutting Jig: A number of times it is required to cut stock into circular shapes. This can be done best with the use of a band saw circle cutting jig.

You always want to make sure you have a clear and thoughout plan of what you want in your workshop, it will make it easier to choose the perfect Workshop Plans for your needs.

Playhouses are the little dream houses that kids never forget. They are usually placed outside the house for children to play in. A playhouse can bring in a whole new world of fun into the lives of your little ones.
You can choose from a variety of Playhouse Plans and styles when it comes to building a playhouse. You can choose from the following:
•	Victorian-styled playhouse
•	A playhouse modeled after a home
•	A customized playhouse design
•	A themed playhouse
When you decide to build your own playhouse, you can choose between a playhouse that rests amongst the trees or you can build a small house that rests flatly on the ground. You can also construct a playhouse by hiring a professional carpenter. In order to build a playhouse on your own, you can follow the given steps:

1.	The first step is to choose a suitable site. The site should be leveled and have a good soil drainage. You will need to clear the site of rocks, trees etc.
2.	Next, you need to decide the dimensions of the backyard playhouse, which should be included in a good set of playhouse plans. An optimum playhouse would be six feet by eight feet. The height of the playhouse will depend on the height of your kids. For constructing the playhouse, you will need four wooden stakes, a hammer, a ball of string and a measuring tape. You can increase the height of your playhouse by adding onto it when your kids grow.

3.	After you have measured the length and width, pound the stakes into the ground to mark these dimensions. Then attach the string to the stakes all the way around. To lay the foundation for the playhouse, you will need four two by fours. Lay the wood inside the stakes and then remove the stakes and place the pieces together. Next, you will need several two by fours to make the frame of the floor with.
4.	Once the foundation is completed, you will need to build and add the frames of the walls.
5.	It is important to install a doorway in the front. Once the outer frame is completed, you need to measure and mark out where the door will be. The doorway should be about two feet wide and the height should be according to the height of your children.
A playhouse should be colorful and decorative since it is for children. You can place all the indoor games for your children inside the playhouse.

Outdoor storage sheds are simple, single story structure usually in the back garden or outside your property that is used for storage, hobbies or as a workshop.

There are a number of things you should take into consideration while buying an outdoor storage shed:

Design of the Outdoor storage sheds and House Design: The appearance of the shed is linked with the appearance of the property on which it is installed. The storage shed is not just a utilitarian item. The design of your storage unit should complement the look of your house.

Price and Quality of Outdoor Storage sheds: Don’t just grab a cheap storage shed and try to save money. Be sure to choose the right quality for the right price. A little more money can help you buy the highest quality that will last you longer.

Prepare the location: When you have purchased the storage shed, make sure you lay down cinder blocks, concrete piers, a concrete slab or at least crushed stone. The supports underlying the floor should be made of pressure treated wood.

Size of the outdoor storage sheds: Ensure that the entry to the storage shed is wide enough to accommodate your largest piece of equipment. There should be enough room for storing all your tools and supplies.

Compare Siding Materials: The most attractive siding for storage units is considered to be natural wood. But wood exposed to water over time rots. Cedar is the most popular choice of wood for storage units. Cedar contains natural resins that make the unit relatively rot-resistant.
A vinyl siding will provide a maintenance-free storage unit. Steel storage units should be avoided due to their susceptibility to rust. Rust-free aluminum is the most sensible choice in metal siding.

Blend Storage units into a landscape: Planting around your outdoor storage sheds can integrate your outbuilding into the surrounding landscape rather than standing out and looking out of place. You can decorate the outdoor sheds so that they look a part of your house.

Accessories for Storage Buildings: Certain outdoor sheds come with French doors or cupolas. You can also make small touches by hanging vines, window boxes, shutters or weathervanes.

Choice of the storage unit: You need to decide whether you want to install an outdoor storage building or save some money and order an outdoor storage building kit that comes with assembly instructions.

Outdoor Sheds – which one is best for you?

Outdoor sheds are a structure constructed in your backyard or back lawn for the purpose of getting more storage space. They are particularly useful for storing outdoor equipment, tools, gardening supplies because they allow you to keep the tools out of the weather and not get your house dirtied up in the process.

There are many different types and a number of new designs available for outdoor storage shed these days. Some of the most commonly used ones are:

1- Wooden Storage Sheds: These are the classic, or the most old fashioned type of storage sheds. These sheds need maximum maintenance since they are not immune to weather. The roof needs to be water proofed once in a while to keep the items inside safe and the walls need to be stained or painted every few years.

Wooden storage sheds usually need to be assembled. But you can also buy outdoor storage shed building plans and then buy the materials for your shed at a local hardware or home improvement store.

2- Metal outdoor storage sheds: These are another inexpensive, common kind of outdoor storage sheds. These sometimes come fully assembled but you can also buy the do-it-yourself kit according to your preference. Metal has a tendency to rust due to prolonged exposure to various weather conditions. Metal may also get dents in it over time.

3- Vinyl outdoor storage sheds: These are reasonable and maintenance free. They don’t dent, rust or mildew easily. A lot of vinyl outdoor storage sheds never need to be painted or water proofed either.

4- Plastic sheds: Plastic sheds use heavy molded plastics such as PVC and polyethylene. They are less expensive than metal sheds. Plastic sheds are stronger, lighter and more durable and more resistant to denting and chipping than wood as PVC resins and high impact and polyethylene is UV-light resistant. Plastic shed kits sided with vinyl are typically among the least expensive types of shed construction. The higher quality plastic sheds use UV-resistant plastic and powder coated metal frames.

5- Asbestos sheds: These were used in the early and middle years of the 20th Century. Garden sheds and domestic garages were made of asbestos-cement sheets supported on a very light angle iron frame. This kind of shed was discontinued due to concerns of safety and stability.

All the above outdoor sheds are good options but the best choice for you can be made depending on the climate of the area you live in. Some sheds might hold up in windy climates better than others and some might hold up well in really hot seasons.

Rabbit hutches are built to keep cute little bunnies as pets or start breeding rabbit for money or food supply. It is important that your rabbit hutch plans be well thought-out and planned. It has a simple design. Square wooden corners, simple cabinet hinges and some chicken wire is all that is required. The wrong size of the wires can hurt small bunnies. The small doors can give you a big headache when it is time for maintenance.
Rabbits need clean and dry hutches to live in. They must be protected from wind, rain and the blazing hot sun. These can affect the life or death of the rabbits.
A new rabbit can be a great and exciting addition to your family. Rabbits enjoy living both indoors and outdoors. But, they are more comfortable when they are outside. Rabbits can deal with cold temperatures better than they do with warm temperatures.

There are two options to consider when you decide to build your own rabbit hutch:

1.	All-wooden enclosure: This is the most popular and common type of rabbit hutch. This hutch uses sturdy dependable plywood and not particle board. It serves as a home for your rabbit for a long time so it is important to use good supplies. However, this is not a good choice for a pet rabbit.
There are some Rabbit Hutch Plans that contains two different sections. One section will be completely enclosed, except for a small opening for your rabbit to enter and exit into the larger portion of the cage. It is recommended to have a wire bottom. This is because your pet will generally use any bedding as litter.
The larger section should approximately be twice the size of the enclosed area. This section will have a wire bottom and a wire door. This will allow proper ventilation to your rabbit. Ventilation is vitally important for a rabbit’s health. The roof of the rabbit hutch should be sturdy. Also remember to set the cage high enough off the ground to allow for circulation, at least 3 feet.
2.	All-wire cage: This is an easy to make rabbit hutch. This is meant for indoor use but they are perfectly suitable to be made into outdoor rabbit hutches as well. It is best to put the roof sloping down towards the back in order to let rain or snow flow off. Cleaning this rabbit hutch once a week is sufficient for sanitary issues.

5 Steps on How to Build a Chicken Coop!

A chicken coop is a place of shelter for chickens and a place where hens can lay their eggs. It is like a safe retreat for the chickens. Many of us do not wish to invest in pre-made chicken coops because of the inflated cost involved and the hassle of bringing it home. Thus, the following 5 steps can help you build a safe and secure backyard chicken coop for your chickens:
1 – Plan Ahead of Time: It is important to take into consideration certain decisions regarding the number of chickens which will inhabit the coop, the size of the chickens, the number of nests you will provide and the number of windows that will be required to give enough sunlight to your flock before you begin constructing your coop. You also need to think if you will provide a chicken run for the access of chickens, the number of feeders and waterers you will have. It is important to think properly about all these aspects in order to avoid making mistakes.

2- Choose the location: It is important to choose an area that will have space to fit in your coop and surrounding space for the chicken run.
3- Draw your design on paper: Do not just have the plan in your head and start building the coop. Sketch the plan on a paper and cover every angle including a top view of the roof and a sketch of the inside.
4- Collect all the material: Keep all the stuff handy when building the coop so that you don’t have to make unexpected trips to the market. Make a list of all you need like wood, nails, wire, saw, hammer, concrete cinder blocks and others. This is probably the most important step in How To Build a Chicken Coop!
5- Begin building it: After you have all the material and the plan ready, start building your coop the way you want it to be.

It is fun to make your own backyard chicken coop and see chickens laying eggs just outside your property. If you are a beginner and have no plan in mind, you could follow the following 3 steps to build the most basic chicken coop:
1. Place metal or wooden posts in the ground in a rectangle shape in the size you want. Wrap chicken wire around the 4 posts.
2. Nail a 2×4 across the wooden posts slightly below the height of the metal posts to make a slope. Do the same on the opposite side at the same height of the posts.
3. Last, nail the tin roofing. You can build a door if you want.

Now you should have the basic information on How to Build a Chicken Coop!

The basics of choosing Chicken Coop Plans!

A chicken coop is a building where chickens are stored. The interiors of chicken coops usually have nest boxes for the purpose of egg laying and perches for the birds to sleep on. The interior and exterior floor is mostly covered with a material to contain the chicken waste and to allow easier cleanup of the chicken coop. The material used could be straw or wood chips.

There are a number of chicken coop plans. A chicken coop is generally accompanied by a run, which is the outside area for the chickens. The scope of the run varies depending on local conditions and the surrounding environment, the type of predator that might be looking for a free chicken meal and anything that could be a threat to the chickens living in the chicken coop.

There are 3 tips you should know before choosing chicken coop plans:

1- Build an Easy Maintenance Coop: It is important to clean your chicken coop on a regular basis. By planning ahead and building your chicken coop with ease and maintenance in mind, you can prepare for this. One way is to slope the bottom floor so that it points downward towards the main front door. This ensures the flow of water out of the coop instead of puddling at the center.
2- Ensure to have enough space: Chickens do not like to live in cramped situations. They sometimes resort to pecking or even cannibalism due to inadequate space. Make sure you remember to leave 4-5 square feet per chicken. You don’t want to realize your mistake after building the coop. Set your measurements properly and do not leave any space for mistakes.

3- Make the chicken coop safe: Remember to protect the coop from predators and severe weather. To protect the coop from weather, build it on a higher level and facing the sun. The high location will protect the coop from flooding during severe rainfall. The sun will dry the coop faster during wet seasons.

It is not a wise decision to use wire mesh. Even the smallest predators can chew through the high gauge wire and harm the chickens. Make sure you get the commercial grade stuff. It may cost you more but will prove its worth in the long run. You may also want to consider cementing the floor to prevent snakes and other predators from digging under the ground and coop walls. But it is a better option to use chicken wired floor so that the chickens can enjoy pecking at worms and small rodents for a quick meal.

Hope these 3 Tips help you in choosing between the many chicken coop plans available.

Things to consider when choosing your Chicken Coop Designs:

A chicken coop is used for sheltering chickens safely. There are a number of ways and designs to build your own backyard chicken coop. It is advisable to do a bit of your own research and make changes to suit your local environment while choosing the design for you. The purpose of a chicken coop is to protect chickens from predators and keep them safe.

The design of your coop will obviously depend on your personal needs. If you are planning to have a small flock and want to build a smaller coop, you may opt for a portable chicken coop. This kind of coop often does not have floors and can be moved every few days or weeks from one part to another. This is done so that the grass does not get trampled down. This is most suitable for raising chickens in urban areas. The chicken droppings are a great fertilizer for your lawn and with the help of a portable coop; the chickens get access to new bugs and fresh grass.

It is difficult to choose the most suitable chicken coop design. The design that is worth your money and time can be chosen after considering the following factors about the designs:

1- Easy Cleaning and Maintenance: Properly built chicken coop should allow for easy cleaning and maintenance. It is important to clean the coop at regular intervals. Choose a downward sloping coop which allows for proper drainage. Be sure that the main doors open inwards and not outwards.

2- Provide for ventilation: Make sure that the design allows for proper ventilation. Inadequate ventilation could be disaster and a threat for your chickens. Choose a coop that has windows but make sure that the windows can slide open and shut easily.

3- Proper lighting: The presence of an electric light source is necessary. A normal or fluorescent bulb may be used to allow you to see your chickens at night and also help keep chickens warm in the colder seasons.

4- Good Quality Materials: Make it a point to purchase good quality construction material. The materials should suit and work best for your situations. You should use the correct fencing wires so that predators are not able to chew the wires and eat up your chickens. Wire mesh should be avoided as they are easy to chew and leave your chickens vulnerable.

These are just a few considerations you should keep in mind before choosing the right chicken coop design to suit your needs and local environment conditions.

A bird house, also called a nest box is a man made box provided for birds to nest in. They are mostly used for wild and domesticated birds but some mammal species may also use them.

Bird houses are usually built from wood and there are many bird house plans available. They are a great way to attract a variety of birds to your property. Some bird houses are also made using a mixture of wood and concrete and called woodcrete. Metal nest boxes are also used but they are not suitable for outdoor use since they can overheat easily.

Most bird houses are cuboid or have a sloping roof. Some have a hinged top, side or front to provide access for cleaning or bird ringing. Bird houses may also have cameras so that the activities of the birds can be monitored.

The size of the bird houses vary depending on the different species of birds it aims to attract. Small boxes attract wrens and tree creepers and the larger ones attract ducks and owls. Woodcrete boxes are preferred by blue tits, great tits and tree sparrows.

Some things you should keep in mind while building your own bird houses are:

Don’t paint, stain, varnish or treat the inside or around the hole entrance of the bird house. This might keep away the birds.

Cedar wood is a good option. It doesn’t need to be painted, stained or treated.

The wood should be three-quarters of an inch thick.

Find a good place to place the bird house. A good place would be somewhere I your property where there isn’t too much human activity.

The bird house can be hung on a tree or mounted on a pole. The height should be usually 3 to 10 feet high.

The roof of the bird house should be sloped and extended. This helps to prevent wind driven rainwater from getting inside.

The walls on the inside of the bird house should be grooved or made rough. This enables baby birds to climb.

It is not important to have perches. Only Starlings and House Sparrows prefer perches.

The design should include a hinged side or roof to allow for periodic cleaning.

Try and keep the hinges of the bird house rust proof.

A lock can be useful to discourage the entrance of raccoons in the bird house.

The bird house should have four, quarter inch drainage holes at the bottom and two five-eighths of an inch ventilation holes near the top.

How to choose the right Bird Feeder Plans:

A bird feeder, also known as a tray feeder, is a device used to supply bird food to birds. They are placed outdoors. The success of a bird feeder depends on the kinds of food supplied and the placement of the feeder. Bird feeders supply seeds or bird food, such as Millet, Sunflower, Safflower, Niger Seed and rapeseed or canola seed depending on the birds as different species have different preferences.

There are many different types of bird feeders built with different techniques. You can choose from many bird feeder plans to find the one that best suits with the kind of birds you wish to attract.

Seed Feeders: These are the most common type of bird feeders. These can take the design of a tube to hoppers and trays. These feeders use sunflower seed or mixed seed to attract many songbirds such as finches, chickadees and cardinals.

Hummingbird Feeders: These feeders supply liquid nourishment to hummingbirds in the form of sugar solution. This solution is given a red color to make it look attractive and catch the bird’s attention. It is important to refresh the liquid as yeasts tend to grow in hummingbird feeders and spoil the solution. Petroleum jelly should also be smeared on the feeder’s hanger to prevent ants from crawling down to the feeder below.

Oriole Feeders: are traditionally orange colored. These feeders are basically designed to serve New World orioles by offering artificial nectar. These orioles have an unusually shaped beak and tongue. Hummingbirds also sometimes feed from Oriole feeders. Oriole feeders may also use fruit foods, such as grape jelly, or half an orange on a peg to attract birds.

Suet Feeder: is constructed like a metal cage with a plastic coating that contains a cake or block of suet to feed woodpeckers, flickers, nuthatches and other insect eaters.

Feeders made from Household and Natural Items: These can be built inexpensively by using items found in or outside your house. The items could be used jars, plastic bottles, waste wood, screws and other material.

Bird feeders are often used for bird watching. Many people fit webcams in their feeders to click pictures of birds when they gather in the feeder. Squirrels often try and carry away the contents of bird feeders to their hoard. There are many techniques to prevent squirrels from doing so. Feeders are constructed with perches which collapse under the weight of anything heavier than a bird. Cages are made through which the squirrel cannot pass but birds can. The placement of the feeder is another technique that can be used to shoo squirrels away from the feeder.
